Getting to know this year's Safety Professional of the Year
Even though his company and colleagues see his dedication to safety, Will Jones, of Country Green Turf Farms, is modest about his contribution. Throughout our interview for this story, he was humble about the achievement, giving credit to the team effort of his company owner and all of their hard working employees.
Will himself wears many hats for Country Green Turf Farms. When I stopped in to take his picture, he was busy dispatching and handwriting the next day's routes. He was planning to drive one of them himself. All this in addition to handling the company safety program. I guess it's a good thing when you're too busy to realize what a great job you are doing, but I'm glad that his colleagues acknowledged it for him. The Trucking Injury Reduction Emphasis (TIRES) project was developed by the Safety and Health Assessment and Research for Prevention (SHARP) program of Washington's Department of Labor and Industries.
The Trucking Injury Reduction Emphasis (TIRES) project team and the TIRES steering committee are working with the Washington State trucking industry to identify causes for the most frequent injuries to develop effective strategies for preventing them.
The TIRES steering committee is made up of a diverse group of professionals that includes: drivers, safety people from large and small trucking companies, labor and business associations, insurers and a representative from a publicly funded truck driving school.
